Night of strong wind in camp 1. A lot of tents fly away. Great problem for the climber that now are desceding to abc. Our tents are safe and Nicola, Fabrizio, Daniele and Fausto are going down after a good night passed on camp 1.
After a night of strong wind and light snow, the sun this morning try to heat the abc. Our group starts at 10 am to reach camp 1 with stuff for settle camp 2. Tonite the group will sleep at camp 1.
Every night our tiny tent fill up with the voices of sherpas of commercial expeditions that after a day of hard job on high camps, come down to our friend Ngima and also with us. And so, beetween smiles, the names of great mountains resound with extreme simplicity. : Annapurna, Everest, Makalu... Often the climbers forget the job and the names of these great Sherpa. Jangbu climbs Everest 5 times. Lakpa climbs Everest and other peaks of Himalayas. This post is for them.
Grey morning with snow today at abc. Maybe a "day off" for all expeditions. Weather today and yesterday:
Yesterday 18.09 all the team members have reach the camp one site (6400 m) and arranged the camp with two tents, foods and materials, without sherpa helps. Immediately we are comeback in ABC. Today is a relax day wayting tommorrow and meeting the chinese expeditions leader to set the period to attempt to the summit.
Sun and no wind at abc today (5700 meters). Nicola, Fabrizio, Daniele Fausto make a great job climbing to 6.400 and set up with their hands the camp 1. Abc rumors says the chinese expedition will try tomorrow to settle camp 2. Light snow now in the advanced base camp.
Meanwhile the other guys training theirself on the peaks around these beautiful lakes, i go down for 500 meters to meet my friend Tenzing that has a nice lodge (hotel mount rest) at Laurivinayak. From here you can see a lot of Himalayas peaKs: Manaslu, Annapurna, Lantang Ri. Tenzing has the only fuel generator around miles. He brings it by his hands (72 kg). Today we use fuel generator because monsoon doesn't help us with the sola panels. A good lesson for Tibet. Tuche Tenzing ! (Thanks Tenzing)
It's early morning when we arrive in a grey Kathmandu, with a lot of clouds above our heads. A timid sun tries to appear but only for a moment. Bagmati, the sacred river, flows and finally taken away the ash of Pashaputinath. All this below. Above the clouds, only a white ocean with the summit of Himalayas. Up there a lot of snow seems to wait us.
Reconciling training and family life is, without a doubt, the biggest problem that each "mountaineer" faces daily and we don't escape from this rule. Nobody knows why, but the wife of every lover of mountain, loves the sea. But this time, the choice of Salina, one of the most peaceful of the Aeolian Islands and in particular the choice of Pollara, the most peaceful places of the most peaceful island of Aeolian , was excellent. Indeed, in Salina there are two mountains respectively 962 and 860 meters above sea level, making it possible to train daily on appreciable differences in height. So the compromise is: wake up at 6.00 0'clock to climb the "Monte dei Porri" and breakfast at 8.00 with my wife, and then a day of sea and snorkeling in a crystalline sea. The hotel chosen is the "Locanda del Postino", a wonderful structure of only 8 rooms, furnished in style and with large patio with hammock attached. A dream between caper plants, palms, lemon and an unparalleled view of the most beautiful sunset. Well, what can i say, good compromise between training and vacation ...
Like the nightmare of our college years, the sentence is done, we must repeat in september! Being the Tibet situation and the controversial communications of several CTMA officers we have decided to delay the expedition to the post monsoon season. Several meeting and telephone calls are done in order to redefine the better period, the permits and visa dates and in order to write up the new program. The projects and the tests are confirmed. We are straining ourselves to find the positive aspects of the situation, but the sadness of the tibetan situation does not allow us to appreciate the greater time for training and to define the details of the projects. By the news from Kathmandu, the solution of the Himalayas north situation does not seem therefore simple. In the meantime we dedicate to physical preparation and the equipments test, in one stressing wait that we will attenuate following friends organization of the Trekking, that remains scheduled for end of April and beginning May, obviously to south of the border between Nepal and Tibet. Prolongedding of the wait is heavy for all and now we have a more reasons in order hoping that the Tibet condition is resolved if never our moral convictions were not enough.

The Appennino Reggiano (the mountains of the Province of Reggio Emilia) is our land and when one speaks about his/her own land at times there is a risk of exaggerating with the amount of praise. If it should happen, take it as just a symptom of affection, because the sky under which you are born tends to always be a better shade of blue than any other sky. Well, almost.
